The Hazelwood West Cross Country team hosted the Terry Meatheany Invitational this past Friday at Kock Park in Florissant, MO.
In a competitive varsity race among the top teams, the Wildcats finished in fourth place finishing just behind three teams they will be competing against in Districts and Sectionals.
Leading the Wildcats was Sophomore Ryan Winters (4th Place; 17:53). Joining Winters in earning medals were seniors Andrew Dailey (9th place; 18:19), James Stallings (17th place; 18:48), Jake Decker (20th place; 19:11) and sophomore Deshaun Carpenter (22nd place; 19:16).
After the varsity race, the Wildcats had a second place team finish in the junior varsity race. The JV team was led by four individuals earning medals. The medalists were sophomore Darwin Carpenter (6th place; 19:49), Alejandro Zamacona (8th place; 19:59), senior Makel Hale (13th place; 20:11) and freshman Brennan Kapler (24th place; 20:36).
The Wildcats will race in their final regular season event this Saturday in the Parkway West Invitational at The Living Word United Methodist Church in Wildwood. Race times for the event are 9:00 for the JV, 10:10 for varsity, 11:10 for sophomores and 12:20 for freshmen.
Directions for the event from Hazelwood West: Take Highway 270 South to Highway 40/64 and go West. Take Highway 40/64 West to Clarkson Road and go left. Take Clarkson Road to Manchester Road/Highway 100 and go right. Take Manchester Road/Highway 100 to Highway 109 and go left. Take Highway 109 to Manchester Road and go right. After racing on Saturday, the cross country team on Sunday morning will be working a water station at the 7-mile mark for the MO Cowbell Half Marathon in St. Charles.
